POSITION SUMMARY

The Child and Youth Counsellor will be a part of the multidisciplinary team that offers crisis intervention and multidisciplinary assessments for children and adolescents who have complex and severe mental health issues in programs across the MH PSU.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  •  Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care for Program Patients and families
  •  Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  •  Develop programming and activities for the inpatient unit and day treatment programs
  •  Offer support /counselling to individual patients and their families
  •  Provide appropriate learning experiences for the patient and family
  •  Offer mentoring experiences for students and new staff

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  •  Graduate of a three-year community college program in Child and Youth Counselling (Essential)
  •  Eligible for certified membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors (OACYC)  (Essential)
  •  Experience in paediatric psychiatry (Essential)
  •  Certification in CPR and First Aid (Essential)
  •  Demonstrated excellent team work and interpersonal skills (Essential)
  •  Knowledge of mental health treatment modalities (Essential)
  •  Bilingualism (French and English) (Essential)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre-screening.  Pre-screening might include testing.


RÉSUMÉ DES FONCTIONS

Le titulaire ou la titulaire fera partie d’une équipe multidisciplinaire qui offre des services d’intervention en cas de crise ainsi que des évaluations multidisciplinaires des enfants et des adolescents qui ont des troubles de santé mentale graves et complexes dans les programmes à travers USP de santé mentale..

DESCRIPTION DU TRAVAIL

  •  Concevoir, planifier, mettre en œuvre et évaluer les soins fournis aux patients de l’unité et à leurs familles;
  •  Participer au travail d’une équipe interdisciplinaire;
  •  Élaborer des programmes et des activités pour l’Unité des patients hospitalisés et au programme de traitement de jour;
  •  Offrir du soutien et des conseils à chaque patient et à sa famille;
  •  Fournir des expériences d’apprentissage adéquates au patient et à sa famille;
  •  Offrir du mentorat aux étudiants et aux nouveaux employés.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Vérification des antécédents en vue d’un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables (Essentiel)
  •  Certificat d’un programme collégial de trois ans en counseling d’enfants et de jeunes (Essentiel)
  •  Admissibilité à une adhésion à l’Association ontarienne des conseillers à l’enfance et à la jeunesse (AOCEJ) (Essentiel)
  •  Expérience en psychiatrie pédiatrique (Essentiel)
  •  Certification en RCR et en premiers soins (Essentiel)
  •  Excellents entregent et esprit d’équipe manifestes (Essentiel)
  •  Connaissance des modalités de traitement des troubles de santé mentale (Essentiel)
  •  Bilinguisme (français et anglais) (Essentiel)
